Art Book | La Légèreté Monumentale de Li Chen (Monumental Levity) | October 2014
Challenge | Create a bilingual layout in which the French and English languages complement one another perfectly. The same was true with Li Chen’s poems which had to be featured in French, English, and Chinese on a double-page spread.
Execution | We first drew master pages for the various sections of the 170-page-long book with Asia Art Center’s head designer, David Tang, and editor, Samantha Chiu. Next, I translated the poems into English and French and wrote the English text of each section. While the artist was reviewing the first draft (and switching pictures time and again), David updated the layout accordingly. We completed the French translations after the approval of the English text and photos.
